Privacy Policy
Have
you ever read, I mean really read, a website's privacy policy? If you
answered yes, have you ever gotten halfway through it without falling
asleep?
At
first I was going to use one of those generic webmaster privacy policy
generators, but I fell asleep halfway through entering all the fields.
So, in plain English, here's everything you need to know about this site and your privacy.
I use StatCounter
as my web page counter. When you visit, StatCounter records the data
and time of your visit, your IP address, how many pages you looked at,
what type of browser you are using, and your monitor resolution.
There's not a web page counter around that doesn't record the same
information. I use this information to determine my site's popularity,
and to optimize my page layout based on the browser preferences of the
majority of my visitors.
For my hotel comments and ratings, I use HaloScan and Votations
respectively. They both record date, time and IP address. The IP
address is useful in case some spammer or psycho comes along and
decides to fill up the comments with useless posts. That way, I can ban
them by their IP address. The comment section allows you to leave your
email address, but you do so at your own discretion.
I run a notification mailing list through Yahoo Groups.
If you choose to be notified when new hotels are added, then you will
be providing me with your email address. No one can view these email
addresses save myself, and they are not shared with any outside group.
If you no longer wish to be on the notification list, simply
unsubscribe the same way you subscribed, via your group list at Yahoo
Groups.
If
you click through to one of my affiliate links, such as my Amazon store
or hotel affiliate links, it drops a cookie on your computer so that,
in the event you make a purchase, I get a small commission. I am not
informed of any personal information regarding your sale, such as your
name, address, or other private information. I only see that a sale was
made, the date it was made, what was purchased, and (most importantly)
how much commission I made. Cookies are not evil tracking devices,
contrary to public opinion. They simply track a purchase made so that
webmasters may receive commission.
I don't use spyware, adware, linkware, scumware, or whatever term you wish to call it. See my spyware rant for further information. You got popups? They didn't come from me.
As
far as children's privacy goes, while there's no adult content on this
site, this is a site directed at adults ages 18 and up. If you're not
old enough to make a hotel reservation, you're not old enough to be
here.
Now that that's out of the way, go ahead and close this window so you can get to the hotels already!
